光电门是精度极高的测时装置，利用红外发射器和接收器，同时光电门自带的切换模式，光电门可以工作在六种不同的模式下，分别是测量遮光时间、透光时间、遮光-透光-遮光三段时间以及在测量单摆摆动周期时使用的透光-遮光-透光-遮光的一个周期测量的方式，用于平抛运动的飞行计时模式以及跨学科使用在化学中的液滴计数模式，这六种模式大大拓展了光电门的使用范围。
* 注意：
(1)“I”一灯亮为测量遮光时间;
(2)“U” 一灯亮为测量透光时间;
(3)“I-U-I” 一灯亮为测量三段时间;
(4)“I、U”两灯同时亮为测量全周期时间;
(5)“U、I-U-I”两灯同时亮这为测量飞行计时
时间;
(6)“I、I-U-I”两同时亮为测量滴数;
